All About Advent Candles

Advent is the four weeks before Christmas celebrated by the Christianity religion. It is very important in the religion because each week has a particular part of the bible that mass and prayer will reflect upon. Four or five candles are placed in the wreath but only one candle is lit at a time and then stays lit through the four weeks of advent. So that means only one candle per Sunday will be lit up until the last week. In some cases some wreaths have five candles in which the fifth candle is placed in the middle and is lit on Christmas Eve or Christmas day.

On each advent wreath there are candle holders that hold four or five candles in which each candle is a particular color and has meaning. Three candles are purple, two of the candles are lit in the first two weeks and the forth candle is lit on the last week. The color purple symbolizes the “The Christ, Prince of Peace”. On the third week a pink candle will be lit and that pink candle symbolizes rejoice and the color of early dawn. The fifth candle is the white candle and is placed in the middle of the wreath and is quite a bit larger in diameter then the rest. The white symbolizes the rebirth of Jesus, the new beginning.

Lighting advent candles are a great tradition in carrying on the religious spirit from year to year in any body’s household. It will help everyone in the house hold remember what season and holiday is upon us and how many weeks that are left before we get to celebrate that holiday religiously, spiritually, and socially. Even though in the church advent wreaths and there candles are quite large and very expensive this should not discourage anybody who may want to use one in their house as they do come in all different sizes.

The sizes and the quality of the candles will determine on how much you will end up paying for your advent candles. It is important for someone who already has an advent wreath and is looking to order candles for the new holiday year to now the sizes in diameter of the candles holders. It can be a very disappointing feeling to order candles and have them shipped to you and when receive them and try to put them in the wreath and find out that they do not fit. And when ordering you want to make sure that you are getting the right colors, must advent candles will come in a package so you will not have nothing to worry about but sometimes you have to order each one separately so if you do make sure your are receiving three purple ones and one pink one and if there is a middle candle holder that one should be white.

In any event the advent wreath is an excellent way to show your religious spirit but you should follow the right color schemes of the advent candles and whenever possible keep the candles that are supposed to be lit, lit. Now a good thing to remember is to keep out of reach of kids for dangerous things can happen. The wax alone can burn the kids badly but if they can get a hold of the wreath and pull it down you might be putting out a fire.
