As I ride around town I often see Catholic Yard statues that depict the saints. It has become very common to see St. Francis Statues adorning people’s yards. Additionally many people may select for their garden statues the Blessed Mother to look over their homes and yards.
The reason people often select St Francis is because he is been selected as the patron saint of animals. Usually you will find a resin statue in people’s yards with animals and birds at St. Francis’ feet. Another common depiction is the use of St. Francis statue as a bird bath and his arm reach out and hold the place for all of God’s small creatures to come and drink or bath.
St. Francis statue is also popular as a bird feeder. In his hand often you may find a lantern that server to put sunflower seeds, and other varieties of wild bird feed that can be used to feed many of the birds indigenous to your area. Often you can change this out to feed the squirrels, or other inhabitants of your back yard or garden but yet doing it with a spiritual slant.
Another common item that sees St. Francis used on it is a bench that can be placed in your yard. All these items combined can make for a pray garden that can be used to start your day. You can quietly take your coffee, go out to your yard and spend some quiet meditation time.
You can also end each day enjoying your bench having a peaceful end before bed.
St. Francis is a lasting icon in the Catholic Church and Saint Francis statues are among the most popular yard ornament for the modern day catholic.
