Irish Home Decor Outward Expression of History

Irish home décor can include anything from ancient Celtic designs to shamrocks on your napkins. There is a mystical atmosphere to Celtic designs because they are complex. They often avoid straight lines and symmetry and do not imitate nature which is usually done in traditional classic art. These ancient, basically ornamental, designs were merged with Christian symbolism in the 6th century, resulting in the Celtic cross and the Celtic knot circling Advent wreaths and crucifixes.

For formal as well as casual dinnerware there is Balleek China and Celtic pottery, made in Ireland with Irish motifs. You can get whole sets or one special piece as a decoration for your table or to use for serving food. Waterford crystal, even though no longer made in Waterford, Ireland, is still a quintessential Irish home décor. It comes in so many different types of vessels from punch bowls to bud vases and is truly a gorgeous addition to any room or dining table. If you are not particular that your dishes be made in Ireland, there are many sets available with classical Irish designs, shamrocks and green trim that are inexpensive.

For your garden there are many pots and statues that are Celtic in design and will only add to your Irish home décor. A planter made of polyresin that looks like carved granite with the Celtic knot motif circling the edge will set an Irish tone in your front yard for guests entering your home. Next they see you door knocker, a solid brass Claddagh design, mounted on a Celtic knot, inviting friendship. There are palm stones, stepping stones, statues of praying angels and gargoyles to place in your garden or home that will add interest to any room.

The details make the greatest impression and there are many small items that will enhance your Irish home décor.  Lavender soap wrapped in linen, throw pillows, afghans and blankets with Irish designs or colors and every day useful items such as, a shamrock table runner, leprechaun salt and pepper shakers, shamrock paperweights, sun catchers, wind chimes and dessert plate. Also, a God Bless the Irish refrigerator magnet. There are Celtic wall crosses and crucifixes for just the right spot in any room as well as Irish blessings and prayers, framed for the kitchen or to give as a wedding present.

Lamps, with intricate designs of the Celtic knot or stained glass with images of Ireland, will shed beautiful light and accents in your home. If you are Irish, you may be able to get personalized Irish mugs, steins, tankards with a coat of arms and if you are not Irish, but like the look, you can get them anyway with a generic design. They also come with Irish sayings, symbols or even just green highlights to emphasize your Irish home décor. There are exquisite 100% cotton, hand dyed tapestries, multi colored for you wall or bed, of beautiful, intricate Celtic designs. You home will be inviting, artistic and radiate warmth with so many decorations and objects with the Irish theme.
