First communion is the time during the childhood of a Catholic that they will remember their whole life. A gift at this time will also be a keepsake and reminder of the faith they have. The traditional communion gifts are religious jewelry, bibles, rosaries and photo frames. Now you can give rag dolls, teddies and music boxes with praying children on top and a lot of non-religious jewelry that commemorates the day.
Getting gifts is great but giving gifts to the godparents at this time is also a great thing to do. Godparents will be so happy to be included in the gift giving and keep them forever. Special plaques with verses and sayings to give to the godparents as a thank you and keepsake of the occasion make good, inexpensive communion gifts. Also, there are wall plaques with the names and dates of the first communion, as well as the names of the godparents. There are photo frames of resin, brass, wood and pewter as well as mugs, mirrors, folders and teddy bears for godparents. There are special pins, cards as well as rosaries, bibles prayer books and music boxes just for godparents.
Communion gifts for children have changed over the years. There are still the traditional gifts but much more now is possible. For girls there are beautiful angel figurines in a variety of colors and poses some including verses. There are rag dolls wearing first communion dresses and teddy bears with chalice shirts for the young girls. Jewelry is also a good gift and will last for years including pendants of angels, crosses, photo lockets and personalized heart pendants, crucifixes and chalice medals as well as almost any pearl jewelry such as earrings and bracelets.
For boys the possibilities are also more. There are watches, wallets, wall posters and figurines suitable for boys. Jewelry for boys includes St. Christopher medals, including a bike clip, cuff links, tie and lapel pins, personalized name bracelets as well as a pendant of their favorite patron saint. Money in the form of a check or gift certificate makes good communion gifts for both boys and girls. They can choose what they want and remember it always. Another gift that can last for years is a plant. A tree or a flowering plant will grow through out their life and remind them of the occasion.
Almost all of the communion gifts can be personalized. The rag doll can be totally personalized from the color of skin, hair and eyes to the name, date and personal message embroidered on the underskirt. Each face is hand embroidered with a happy expression and no two are alike. It comes complete with white dress, veil and shoes. This is a gift any girl would love to have, and it is made to meet the highest toy standards so it will last for years through many washings. First communion is a time in a child’s life where the gifts they receive will always be remembered. Keep this in mind when you choose something for your special godchild.
