How to decorate a Christmas Tree

The traditional Christmas tree is usually some kind of conifer, usually a fir or pine tree. How to decorate a Christmas tree depends on the theme of your home decorations, Christmas, office or anywhere else you want a decorated tree. Traditionally a Christmas tree has multicolored ornaments and lights that give an all inclusive atmosphere. It looks very old fashioned and is the most popular design for a Christmas tree. There are, however, other possibilities depending on circumstances.

Christmas trees can also have color themes to match your home décor or office. You can choose colors that will blend in to your home or you can choose Christmas colors that compliment any décor such as gold or silver with red, green or both. If you don’t know how to decorate a Christmas tree, you can look online at photos or get pictures from magazines that will give you ideas. Whether real or fake, the natural green tree keeps up the tradition of bringing into the house the only color available at that time of year and decorating it with the red berries that are also in season in the winter months. There is also an austere beauty in a silver tree or even a pink tree with mono colored ornaments and lights. It looks very sophisticated as well as festive and is often seen in an office or department store.

There are other theme possibilities for how to decorate a Christmas tree. A candy theme is very cute and delights the children even if the ornaments are plaster and paper. The cute gingerbread cookies, candy canes, garlands made from candies, popcorn and the cut-out cookies of bells and stars decorated with colored frosting and sprinkles are all appetizing as well as beautiful. Your tree could also have a sports theme with tiny balls, racquets, goals and T-shirts that mean so much to your family. Ornaments that remind you of a family vacation or any other happy time you had together will set a mood during the festivities.

If you are only interested in how to decorate a Christmas tree the traditional way, you should put with the lights after you have put the star or angel on top. Carefully drape the string of lights, whichever you choose, single color or multicolor, on the branches from close to the trunk outwards. For the best look you need to use 100 lights for every foot of tree. You can put white lights near the trunk and add the colors as you move out. This will give depth to your decorations. Next you put the garlands. They can be popcorn, beads or foil and should be arranged carefully so they don’t bunch up. Start at the top and increase the amount you put as you get towards the bottom. Ornaments are put next. The larger ones should be closer to the trunk and the tiny ones closer to the tips of the branches.

Now that you know how to decorate a Christmas tree there are some tips you should remember.  Make the tree secure in its stand before you begin the decorating. Always turn off the lights when you leave the house or go to bed. Beauty is important for a happy holiday season but safety is essential.
