Our Lady of Guadalupe is a 16^th century icon which shows the Virgin Mary, otherwise known as the mother of Jesus Christ. This image is also known as the Virgin of Guadalupe and it represents a famous Marian apparition. According to historical accounts, the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared miraculously on the front of a simple peasant’s cloak. The image, which has since been made into Our Lady of Guadalupe statues shows the Virgin Mary standing upright with her head bowed slightly to the right and her hands clasp as though she is praying. She is swathed in a rich blue robe with cold trim and wears a golden colored dress. At her feet shows a man holding up what appears to be the bottom of her robe.

The Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to Saint Juan Diego between the 9^th December and the 12^th of December back in 1531. This symbol is significantly important, especially to most Mexican Catholics and the Virgin Mary, shown in this vision has been given the name, ‘Patroness of the Americas.’ Our Lady of Guadalupe is the second most visited catholic shrine in the whole world.
